No T-Mobile Internet on iPhone 2g?
Just updated your *hacked* iPhone to the latest firmware 2.2.1? Your internet ($5 T-Zones or else) is gone and it looks like it’s gone for good as the lovely people over in Cupertino disabled the APN settings (Settings -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data Network is gone). Unfortunately there is not very much you can do without these, and Cydia doesn’t provide for a hack either.
Took me about 3 hours to find a solution: just find WiFi internet access, open Safari and point your browser to unlockit.co.nz. Just follow the menu and choose settings for T-Mobile USA but change the WAP URL as it has changed to epc.tmobile.com (username and password need to be kept blank). The site will generate a file, which you want to download and install. Restart your iPhone and you’re all set. No need to SSH or FTP files to your phone.
Hope this saves you some poking around…
UPDATE: I used Pwnage to update my iPhone 2G (1st Gen) to software 3.0 last week. Did another 2G last weekend, both times it all went well. The Settings “General -> Network -> Cellular Data Network” are back and you can just enter
APN: epc.tmobile.com
Username:
Password:
(leave username & password blank) and it all works perfectly. Full speed EDGE, subjectively a little faster than before, maybe because the rendering engine has been updated.

I changed the wap to epc.tmobile.com but it didnt work for me. unlockit.co.nz put in internet2.voicestream.com and I’m up and running!

I have a jailbroken 2G iPhone wioth firmware 2.2.1.
I don’t have the T-mobile internet running. I also have a problem with the APN settings: APN settings (Settings -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data Network is gone).
Is it safe for me to solve the problem like you have mentioned? Is there any other possible solution that I can overcome this problem?

iphone 2.2.1 with tmobile can make and recieve calls. no internet. i have 19.99 internet plan. help please? i tried the above.
@ Johanna: yes, it’s safe to use that method! You could SSH into your phone, find the config files and change them but the above described method is easier.
@vincent: my method should work with the 19.99 plan as well but try internet2.voicestream.com (see Yuwaune’s suggestion).

hey i have the tmobile g1, i just bought an unlocked 1st gen iphone i was wondering if i could use my G1 internet plan with it?? i see there was a way to use the sidekick plan, but i was wondering if you could use the G1 plan with the iphone?? please respond im desperate lol
I have a 2g iPhone running on tmobile. Phone works fine. My question is regarding google maps, geotagging, location services. Do i need to have an internet plan for these to work? I have my apn set to epc.tmobile.com. am i doing something wrong?

I have spent a lotta time talking to T-Mobile. Last calls, they said I had to talk to tech support and refused to connect me unless I had another telephone to work on. I don’t, I’m wirelocked.
Called again, talked to a guy who just got his iPhone up and running, he, too, said hehad to have a secondary line, so that when he “pushed” info to my phone and changed things from TMobile, the phone would have to be turned off and on. Then my line went dead and I have given up for now.
Funny that none of the other reps this week told me TMobile had to change some configurationss. I already bought their $34 internet plan. It has taken all week. GRrr. I love tmobile but their CS sucks.
You have to change your internet plan from G1 (I broke my G1, had it replaced under insurance, sold it, and bought an iPhone). They have an internet plan (19.99 with unlimited messaging) for smart phones, you can switch using your online access or by calling them. After that ask to speak to a “tier 2 support representative for smart phones”. They got my unlocked (cydia) iPhone working in no time. The new APN is internet2.voicestream.com if you didnt upgrade to 2.2.1 under settings/general/Network/cellular Data network/
Ok so the tmobile internet plan has a 100mb limit. How much is that in the grand scheme? Is it enough for average use? I figure d/l stuff on the iphone is prob smaller, but im not sure anyone had any issues with reaching the cap. Also if so what were the overage charges like?

Ok so i wen to settings/general/Network/cellular Data network/ put my APN as internet2.voicestream.com and went on unlock.co.nz and created a custom profile put internet2.voicestream.com on the 1stspace, kept the user name blank and password blank ..and chose US t-mobile and pressed create custome profile and i get this
“Restricted URL” the url wasnt loaded: Prefs:root=General&path=ManagedConfigurationList/installRequested&sender=com.apple.mobilesafari
what does that mean?
I am on firmware 2.2 with no tzones, sidekick, g1 or any other type of data plans.
will this add additional charges to my account?
or will I be able to use this without an data plan.

running vs 2.2 tzones stopped working on me today…changed “wap.voicestream.com” to “internet2.voicestream.com” and guess what it worked! even ran a network test on it.

I am using an iPhone 2G with F/W 3.0. In my Settings => General => Network the only stuff I see is:
Data Roaming
VPN
Wi-Fi
What am I doing wrong?
On your phone (in WIFI) go to unlockit.co.nz
Press CONTINUE
Press Custom APM
Change Carrier to US – T-Mobile
Press CREATE PROFILE then intall.
That should give you the options you are looking for under settings and then it should work fine.
IVE TRIED IT AND IT DOSENT SEEM TO WORK FOR ME, I HAVE A IPHONE 2G UNLOCKED AND JOILBORKEN AND I DONT HAVE A DATA PLAN JUST WIFI, ANY IDEAS?
